World War Won

A note from Dav Pilkey:

World War Won was written in 1985, at a time when our world was very different. Back then, the United States and Russia were enemies. The United States thought Russia was a threat, and Russia thought the United States was a threat. Both countries wanted to protect themselves, so they each began to develop bigger and more powerful weapons of mass destruction. This was called the "Nuclear Arms Race".

Eventually, both countries had enough power to destroy the entire planet many times over. This seemed silly to me. I thought destroying the entire planet once would have been plenty.

Apparently, the United States and Russia must have come to the same conclusion as I did, because they began discussing the idea of a "Nuclear Freeze". The "Nuclear Freeze Movement" was a plan to not only stop making nuclear weapons, but to begin disarming some of the weapons that each country already had.

Although almost everyone agreed that this was a good idea, almost nobody agreed on how to do it. So instead of doing it, most people just talked about it.

Instead of talking about it, I wrote a book about it. World War Won is that book.
